What do the columns mean?
Prefix is the letter portion of the code, Label is the issuing company or line, and Status says whether the prefix still receives new numbers: Current, Retired, or blank where we have not confirmed it.
This half of the alphabet is dominated by the letter S, which carries S1's six
successive main-line prefixes, SOD's parallel SD lines, and several Attackers
prefixes. Reading the third character is usually what disambiguates them.

Attribution and status checked 2026-08-03 against each label's own release
listing and against FANZA product records. Wanz Factory did not stop. Its
WANZ line closed in 2020, but the label reopened as WAAA in November 2020 and
was still issuing numbers in August 2026 — which is why a failed WANZ lookup is
usually a range problem, not a dead label.
Rows we could not confirm are omitted rather than filled in with a plausible guess. Prefix lists in this field are copied between sites along with their mistakes, so the fact that an attribution appears in several places is not independent confirmation of it.
Which prefixes in this range are easiest to confuse?

Five characters each, differing only in the last |
SSNI versus SSIS and STARS versus START are the two pairs most often
mistyped, because the difference is a single character in the middle or at the
end of a string people copy by eye. If a code in one of these families returns
nothing, swapping to its neighbour is the first thing to try — before assuming
the release does not exist.
The S concentration also has a practical upside: if you see a code beginning
SS, SO, SN, SD or ST with a three-digit serial, you are almost
certainly looking at S1 or SOD, which narrows a search considerably even when
you have mis-read a character.
What if your code has no letter prefix at all?
Then it belongs to one of the non-studio numbering families, which are not in this table.

The n1234 shape is the one that most often lands people on a studio prefix
table by mistake. A single letter is never a studio prefix — nothing in either
half of this lookup is one character long — so a lone letter followed by four
digits is a signal to switch catalogues, not to keep hunting the alphabet.
Why does this table not show release counts?
Because we have no data that would support one, and a fabricated count in a reference table is worse than an empty column.
Our index stores faces, not catalogue records. There is no maker field, no release date, and no title inventory in it. The only quantity we could compute is how many titles carrying a prefix turn up on the sites we happen to index, which measures one set of aggregators rather than any studio's output.
Boundary worth stating: the index covers 106 sites, but only around a dozen of them carry Japanese-style codes at all, and 2,246 of 2,333 representative images come from a single source (our index, 2026-08 snapshot). Publishing per-prefix counts on top of that skew would present aggregator coverage as industry output.
What do you do when the prefix checks out but the code fails?
Confirm the serial is within the range that prefix reached, then stop working from the number.
Retired prefixes have a highest issued serial. Anything above it was never allocated and cannot be found anywhere — the leading cause of "the prefix is definitely right and it still fails". Which prefixes are closed, and what succeeded them, is covered in codes from studios that no longer release.
When the number is exhausted, the face in the frame is the identifier that remains.
